Q.  I am looking at the BLT garage floor mats. How do I cut them?

Q.  How long do I need to wait before finishing a newly poured floor? It is about 4 months old now..
A.  We get this question a lot. I will assume you are speaking of an epoxy finish. I am not a big fan of throwing generic numbers out there but on average it is about 6 months. If you are in the middle of the desert it would be less and if you are in a high humidity area or very cold area it could be more. A moisture test can sometimes be a good indicator. Each manufacturer may have there own recommendations. There are also other options such as garage floor tiles or garage floor mats which when installed do not require that you wait as long.

Q.  What is your advice on tiles and a woodworking shop?
A.  First let me start by saying that either the Diamondtrax, Daytona, or Daytona coin will work great for this application. There is no need to combine with the Tylon. The idea of using the Tylon tile, or the Ribtrax tile (which can not be combined with other tiles) is that the dirt and debris falls through and you can vacuum it up through the tile. Alot of people prefer this, especially with the Ribtrax, because it keeps your working area clean.
The tiles will withstand a significant amount of weight. If you have a situation where the whole weight of a saw is coming down on a single square inch of material it is possible that you could see an impression. It is also possible that if you drag heavy and sharp equipment over top of the tile that it can scratch.
The best way to resolve the question of which tile to use is to answer a question that only you can answer. If this is truly a residential application with a small woodworking shop --like I have in my garage-- then any of the tiles will be fine. If you would consider this more of a commercial or industrial application then I would highly recommend the Swisstrax Diamondtrax or Ribtrax tiles.

Q.  Do you offer any samples?
A.  Yes we offer samples of all our garage floor mats and tiles. Please vist our Garage Floor Mat & Tile Samples request page.

Q.  My garage is 24 x 16. in side i 231/2 by 15 1/2. can the garage floor mats be cut to fit?
A.  The garage floor mats can be fit to almost any garage. We always recommend that the final 'trim' cuts be made on site. If you can let us know what pattern you are looking for and what wall the garage door is on, we would be happy to assist you in choosing the garage mats. You can also fax us your drawing or submit your dimensions online for a quote. JNK Products Estimate & Design Services

Q.  I have an older house and the floor with an epoxy floor paint. The problem is that the surface is starting to pit again. My house is in Louisiana and the floor sweats a lot. What is the best solution?
A.  I would use a vented garage floor tile like RibTrax. Try the following link:
SwissTrax/RibTrax. I would also recommend that you stay away from any epoxy at this point. Putting a coatings product over a failed coatings product is not generally a great idea. The amount of work and chemicals that it takes to remove a failed coatings product is probably not worth the effort or the risk.

Q.  My garage is 18 Ft. x 20 Ft.- How many tiles do I need?
A.  Depending on if you go with Ribtrax or if you Go with DiamondTrax you will need a different amount of tile. In either case we can sell you exactly what you need for 3.50 per square foot.
The Diamondtrax tiles are 13"x13". Since the chance of using the half a tile from one place someplace else, I always figure length and width in terms of tiles.
An 18' length is going to require (18' x12" divided by 13) 16.615 tiles, so we'll call it 17 tiles. The 20' length is going to require (20" x 12" divided by 13) 18.46 tiles, so we will call it 19 tiles. To get the total number of tiles we can now figure the area in 'square tiles' (17 x 19) so you are going to need 323 tiles at a cost of 4.09 each -- if you make all your cuts right.
To keep a long answer from getting longer, if you go with the Ribtrax it is the same calculations but you base it on 15.75 x 15.75. So you have a 14 x 6 Square Tile area and you need 224 tiles.

Q.  On the ribbed BLT Mats with a ribbed on one side and smooth on the other. Which side goes up? What is the minimum temperature of the garage to insure the mats relax? How long should it take to relax? Which is recommended, butt or overlap (a 40' wide garage)? The shipping box states the weight at 116 lbs. What is the thickness and length?
A.  Some of the questions you have asked are easily answered and others are going to take some assumption on my part. If we assume that your employer went with a standard mat and not a custom mat, my assumption would be that you have 4 10x22 55 Mil Ribbed mats. That said, if they wend with a custom mat that may not hold true. Based on the information you have provided that thickness and the length will be inversely proportional --that is to say if the product is longer it must have been the thinner grade, if it is shorter it must have been the thicker grade. That said in all likelihood you have 4-10 x 22 Mats That are 55 Mils thick. 1 Mil = 1/1000th of an inch in thickness.
There is no magic formula for how long the mats will take to relax. It is going to depend mostly on the temperature inside your garage. If you can leave the door between the home and the garage open and or use a small heater inside the garage it may speed up the process. Finally, the side of the product with the pattern, in this case the ribs, goes up.

Q.  I am interested in the Storm Shield and Park Smart garage door thresholds. Which one is the best?
A.  Stormshield and Parksmart both make excellent products. The Stormshield product has been on the market longer, however the Parksmart product offers a longer warranty. In my professional opinion there is no real functional difference between the products and it comes down to which product fits your needs. If a larger product in grey or brown works for you then the ParkSmart product is a good choice. If a black product with a smaller footprint is more what you need then I would pick the stormshield.
While I would love to give you a more definitive answer, the truth is both products use the same concept to accomplish the same function and neither product has had any issues that would cause me to be concerned.

Q.  I have a 25x8ft enclosed trailer and I am buying some of your ribbed flooring to put in it. What should I use to hold it down to the floor and how much will I need?
A.  Great Question, and there are a couple issues here I would like to address:
First: I would recommend that you give us a call and that we provide you with 9' Trailer grade material.
Second: BLT has an indoor/outdoor adhesive which we recommend in trailer applications. You will need 1 gallon of adhesive based on covering an 8 x 25 area. Important Note: According to the specifications, 1 gallon is exactly enough. Depending on your sub-floor conditions you may want to consider purchasing an extra gallon.
Third: If you buy the 9' product you may want to consider rolling it up the sides of the trailer instead of trimming the material.

Q.  Will the BLT Standard Ribbed Pattern Mats withstand the hot tires from my Volvo SUV?
A.  The BLT garage floor mats make an excellent alternative to garage floor epoxy and are very resilient to hot tires. I would recommend that you consider the black mats as they are less likely to stain from high performance tires.

Q.  What type of guarantee does your Tylon Deck Covering have?
A.  All of our garage floor tiles have a 10 year warranty.

Q.  Is the BLT garage flooring mat as good or better than painting my garage floor? What are the pros and cons? It seems like a great product. Is it worth the money?
A.  BLT garage flooring is a great product and for most applications it's far superior to most of the epoxy products on the market. Some of they key benefits of the BLT garage flooring product over garage floor paint:
1. The BLT garage floor mat will not peel, flake, or lift from hot tires.
2. The BLT garage flooring product is easy to install with very little floor preparation.
3. It has been our experience that BLT garage floors will far outlast most epoxy coatings.
4. No harsh chemicals and no foul odors.
5. The BLT garage floor mat can easily be removed for cleaning

I can also tell you that I was so impressed with the BLT garage floor mat that I put it in my own garage. My wife and I installed the coin pattern BLT garage floor mat a couple of years ago and we have had no issues.

Q.  I talked to BLT LLC today about their diamond tread garage floor covering. I am looking for a piece to be custom ordered 10'x11'. I would like to put it on the floor of my son's room, giving him a "garage theme." Would you email me a price quote for a 10x11 roll of grey diamond tread floor (72 mil)?
A.  Great Question. We do custom cut mats and you can order them here

Q.  I Recently bought a home with a double garage (love it) but the previous owner put ceramic tiles on the garage floor, maybe it was used as a room or office. I don't want to remove the tiles for now and I need some cover that protect the floor from the cars because I want to park inside. What do you recommend? Do you have that cover?
A.  Garage floor protection comes in many shapes and sizes. If you are simply looking for a containment mat to place under the car then I would recommend:

Personally, I prefer garage flooring. The ribbed pattern would be perfect for what you are looking to do. You can find garage flooring here:

I would also recommend Seaming Strip & Oatey Bonding Solvent at the seam which you can find here:
http://www.jnkproducts.com/blt-adhesive.htm

Q.  How thick is a Mil?
A.  A Mil is 1/1000 of an inch. If you are like me that is hard to visualize. A standard sheet of copy paper is about 4 mils thick.

Q.  What is the difference between garage flooring, garage floor mats, a Parking Pad and a containment mat?
A.  OK, not to state the obvious but garage flooring is a surface or material that you use to cover your garage floor and is generally designed to stand up to the conditions you would find in an average garage.
A garage floor mat is a type of garage flooring and a Parking Pad is simply a brand name of Better Life Technology for their garage floor mats. Garage floor mats come in widths up to 10' and lengths up to 60' or they can be easily seemed to cover your entire garage floor.
Containment mats are not actually garage flooring. The best example I can give is a door mat. They are great to sit in front of the door and catch the dirt and grime as people come in, but you would not want to cover your whole floor with them. A containment mat is not designed to be a garage floor. You would not want to cover your whole floor with one and you can't but cabinets or store stuff on them. They are perfect for the guy who is happy with his garage floor and just wants to keep water and dirt off of it.

Q.  I am looking at the BLT garage floor mats. How do I cut them?
A.  Better Life Technology mats (BLT) can be cut with a utility knife or heavy duty shears. We find the use of a large T-Square to be very helpful. They are not hard to cut.

Q & A Regarding Roofing

Q.  I have a mobile home that is leaking. I've sprayed some sealant on it but it continues to leak. Do you have any suggestions?

Q.  I have a mobile home that is leaking. I've sprayed some sealant on it but it continues to leak. Do you have any suggestions?.
A.  Mobile homes can be tricky. Unfortunately a leak that originates in one place can travel through your roof and show up someplace else. There are a couple of options for you. The best option would be to put an EPDM RoofWrap over your existing roof. Visit http://www.mobilehomeroofing.com for information on that.
Depending on the substrate, you may be able to coat the entire roof with a Liquid EPDM. We would need to discuss the details of your roof first. Another option is to use a garden hose and locate the exact location of the leak. Consider using a little reinforcing fabric before spraying an additional coating.
