A garage door threshold is an affordable, easy to install product that acts as a counter-flashing for your garage door. Many, if not most garage doors (even new ones) have a gap between the bottom of the garage door and the concrete garage floor below. A garage door threshold helps to close that gap and works to keep out water, dirt, bugs and other pests and problems.

Installing a garage door threshold will cost less than $100 and typically take only a few minutes. You should always follow the manufacturer’s directions, but basic installation simply requires you to open the garage door, place the threshold where you would like it to be. Close the garage door and insure that the garage door threshold is in the proper position. Mark the position of the garage door threshold on the garage floor using a pencil. Next open the garage door and remove the garage door threshold. Apply the included glue to the garage floor using your line as a guide. Now place your garage door threshold back into position and close the garage door.

Many people wonder if installing a garage door threshold will effect pulling their vehicle in and out of the garage. In a word, NO. The garage door threshold is only about ½” and vehicles barley even notice it.

Start the first panel at about the height of your knees. Continue up the wall and stop when you install a panel where you could not reach any higher to install a hook or basket. My personal experience and my experience from dealing with tens of thousands of customers indicates that people will not use the wall storage if they have to get a ladder (that’s what overhead garage storage is for) or if they have to bend down to far –not to mention that the slatwall does no good in areas where the hook would it the ceiling or the item you are trying to store sits on the floor. One more suggestion: Take the time to mark each and every stud in the area where you are going to install the panels and center the panels as best you can to get a screw as close to each edge of each panel.

One of the questions we get asked most often is what type of pattern and what type of product people should use in a garage that is used for more than just parking cars. Our customers want to know everything from what type of pattern they should use to if a garage floor mat or a garage floor tile or even an epoxy will best fit their needs.

We’ve used both garage floor mats and garage floor tiles without issues in workshop type environments. I think the choice between a mat and a tile is a matter of personal preference and I am hard pressed to find an absolute reason why someone should ALWAYS use one over the other.

I do believe that picking the proper garage floor pattern and even color is important. First, the concept of white garage flooring is something that blows me away. Most people would not consider putting white carpet in their kids room yet they consider white garage flooring in the garage –probably not the best idea. Our experience shows that the silver and grey do the best job of hiding dirt and debris.

If you are going to be rolling a toolbox, a chair or sliding underneath a car I recommend the coin pattern as my first choice. You could go with a smooth tile or Levant mat but that would leave some questions as to traction. The diamond tile looks sharp and when it comes to appearance is by far my favorite. If, however, you are constantly rolling items with a small wheel base, the diamond pattern tends to be a little loud and provide a little more ‘friction’ then the coin pattern garage flooring products.

Justin & Nicole Krauss Attended the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas Nevada during the week of May 4^th. While much of the time was spent meeting with existing vendors (to insure that we continue to bring the best quality products at the lowest possible prices) we also searched the convention for new and innovative garage flooring and garage storage products for our consumers.

We’ve found some new products that will launch this fall and greatly enhance your garage. In addition to products for the garage, we found some additional niche products that we will add to our existing line of niche home improvement products geared towards improving your home life!

Base Molding is an item often overlooked by those in the market for garage floor mats or garage floor tiles. While rubber garage base molding is very affordable (usually about $100 for the whole garage) many consumers simply overlook the necessity of the item.

According to Better Life Technology, a garage floor mat can shrink or expand substantially. That means that when you are installing a garage floor mat you need to leave a gap all the way around the perimeter of the mats. Rubber base molding can cover that gap and complete the look of your garage floor.

JNK Diamond & Coin Garage Floor tile have the same dilemma. As plastics expand and contract, we have to require a 1/4″ to 1/2″ gap around the perimeter. I think it is fair to say that after spending around $3 a square foot you would prefer not to have a gap showing at every edge of your garage. That is where rubber base molding comes in. Simply glue it to the wall and the gap is covered. We recently used red in our showroom (with Black and Silver tiles) and it looks amazing!!
