We’ve had a lot of questions about installing G-Floor garage flooring lately. There seems to be some confusion in the market as to if and when an adhesive is required and if so what type of tape or adhesive.
We’ve sold millions of dollars worth of the BLT Parking Pad and G-floor branded products. We estimate that less than 4% of our customers have used any adhesive or tape at all. This is what makes the BLT product such an attractive product. Most installation simply requires that you open the package, roll it out and trim to fit.
Some of our customers and many professional installers have requested some permanent alternatives for installation. Until recently we have always recommended a procedure using double sided carpet tape. While this procedure is still acceptable, the manufacture has recently introduced its own brand of adhesives and installation products. While these products ARE NOT REQUIRED we do want to make them available to you. You can find the G-Floor installation products by visiting http://www.jnkproducts.com/blt-adhesive.htm
Recently, we have had many questions about the use of Gorilla Tape® for installing Better Life technology Garage floors. We sell a lot of Gorilla tape® and it is a great product. It is much stronger than duct tape and works very well in applications where you would use duct tape. Unfortunately, at this time we recommend against the use of Gorilla Tape® for installing garage floors for the following reason:
- We were advised that Gorilla Tape® is not an approved method of installation by the manufacturer –nor is it specifically disapproved.
- We contacted Gorilla Tape® and they had no testing using Gorilla Tape® for garage flooring applications.
- We conducted our own tests and came to the conclusion that it was not an appropriate installation method for garage floors.
- Gorilla Tape provided excellent adhesion at the time of original application.
- After exposure to various elements found in the garage and the expansion and contraction of PVC mats we found that in some cases the tape became visible between the seems and that a soft, tacky substance rose to the top of the seam.
Again, we want to reinforce that a typical installation of BLT flooring does not require and adhesives, chemicals or tapes but that we make these products available to you for the rare occasions where such adhesives are required.
